Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
— Dr. Seuss

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over twenty-five years of experience working with teens, adults and families; collectively these stories and experiences have helped me to grow into a strong, competent and compassionate therapist.

I received my Master's in Social Work degree from The Catholic University of America and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Brandeis University. I worked both in community mental health and a group practice before beginning my private practice in 2012.

I have been on both sides of the couch and believe that the best therapists have done their personal work in their own therapy.  I live loud and large and believe that we all can live, love and be whomever it is that makes us feel happy, fulfilled and whole.

Outside of the office, I am active with my family and in the community. I find that my life experiences, both rewarding and challenging, help me to be understanding when working with my clients whose life experiences often mirror my own.

Healthy Minds: Short Term Behavioral Health

I am honored to be a contracting therapist for the Healthy Minds Short Term Behavioral Health Program. This program enables me to provide quality therapy to students who may otherwise be precluded from services due to insufficient financial resources. I find great joy in working with these students whose parents often don’t speak English or have the knowledge or experience to navigate the mental health world.

See below for a glimpse into this meaningful program:

Testimonials

“When I first met Laurie, my stress levels were through the roof! I was a stay at home dad, raising an eighteen month old, while working part time, and going through a difficult divorce. Laurie showed me how to deal with stress and remain balanced, especially in the presence of my daughter. She helped me to disengage from the negativity by practicing self-care. Today, I have a balanced work and home life and love taking care of my daughter.” Single dad

“I knew my child needed help, but this wasn't something I could do on my own.  Laurie was able to connect with my child in a way that made her feel safe and empowered. She gave my child a space to freely express thoughts and feelings without judgement. Many times Laurie served as an intermediary between us; her ability to establish a trusting relationship with my child has helped tremendously to ease the tension we were experiencing at home. The knowledge and tools Laurie shares allows for my child to navigate her emotions and for me to see my child for who she is. I have a happier child and home and I'm thankful for Laurie’s  dedication.” Single mom

“When I need to talk to someone I can talk to Miss Laurie and feel safe about telling her the things that I am feeling.” 12 year old

“Laurie is very good at asking questions that make you think about what could be the cause behind your emotions. She is great at breaking barriers and getting to the root, making it easy to be aware of your emotions and helping yourself.” Recent high school graduate

“Thank you for all that you do for me and my family. You go above and beyond.” Mom of two adopted children
